The Mercer County Literacy Team presented to over 250 participants at the WVDE Science of Reading Implementation Workshop in Charleston (Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center)





Melaina Whitt, teacher from Bluewell Elementary, won a $250 grant from the INVEST Conference in Charleston. Congratulations, Ms. Whitt!

Mercer County is well represented at the INVEST Conference in Charleston, WV. Many of our teachers are attending this workshop to Infuse, Network, Value, Engage, Support and Target effective instructional strategies to bring back to their classrooms this fall.


The Mercer County BOE recognized Dr. Ernie Adkins for being named the 2024 WV Association of School Administrators Assistant Superintendent of the Year.


The Mercer County BOE recognized Grace Richardson (BHS) for being selected for the Class AA All-State Softball Team. Students recognized but not pictured are Isabella Smith, AA All-State Softball Team and Eli Hilling, AA All-State Baseball Team.


The Mercer County BOE recognized Mr. Dayton Meadows for his work with the Patriot's Pledge ceremony and holding patriotism essay and art contests each year with a total of $2,500 in cash prizes.


The Mercer County BOE recognized Mr. Pete Sarver for always giving 110% to his Bluefield High School family.


The Mercer County BOE recognized Ms. Stephanie Farra for her work as a volunteer at Princeton Middle School.


Board members Paul Hodges and Jim Bailey were sworn in for another term by Judge Sadler at tonight's board meeting. We appreciate their dedication to the Mercer County Board of Education and the students of Mercer County.



Mercer County Students are keeping Mr. Toman busy with almost 4,000 honor roll cards for the 4th nine weeks! Way to go! They will be coming to your mailbox soon! ☺️🎉

HVAC construction at Athens School!











Mercer County Schools' Construction Update: Athens School's boiler room door was installed and trim work was completed around windows. Boiler work continues at Spanishburg, and the main switch gear has arrived. Aaon units have arrived and been placed on the roof of Bluefield Intermediate until all old units can be removed. Bathroom demo is going on at PSHS and PMS. Bluefield High School is receiving some updated paint. Montcalm High, Lashmeet Matoaka, and Bluefield Middle are getting ready for new window installation. At the new Timberwood Elementary, parapet walls in area B roof have been installed, steel work in area C, rough plumbing delivered, and metal studs for areas A/B delivered.
