Superintendent Ed Toman and Purchasing Director Lindsay Streeby met with Director of Safety & Security Sergeant Melissa Clemons and School Resource Officers this morning. In addition to discussing safety initiatives, officers received new standardized uniforms to improve visibility and ensure they are easily recognizable throughout our schools. School safety remains a top priority for Mercer County Public Schools, and we are committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all students, educators, and community members. Our School Resource Officers are all retired law enforcement professionals and are strategically assigned throughout the county, serving and protecting our schools. Data and Information Specialist Amy Harrison attended the Focus Forward Conference yesterday, where leaders in education, manufacturing, technology, and healthcare discussed the opportunities and challenges AI brings to education and the workforce. Speakers included Sal Khan, CEO of Khan Academy, WV State Superintendent Michele Blatt, the presidents of West Virginia University and Marshall University, and US Senator Shelley Moore Capito. The priority remains preparing students with strong thinking skills for a changing world.
