A huge thank you to the Weatherford Fellowship Ladies Group at Kee Street United Methodist Church! They reached out to Mercer County Schools to ask how they could support our students. We shared that many of our families lack access to a working stove, making it difficult to prepare nutritious meals. The group responded with incredible generosity, donating several brand new crockpots to help families cook warm and healthy meals for their children. At tonight’s board meeting, teachers who attended the WVDE “SAIL” Conference presented on the instructional rounds they participated in. The two‑day Support, Appreciate, Invest, & Learn event offered a collaborative, evidence‑based approach to continuous improvement and launched the new “Engaging Families” initiative.

At tonight’s board meeting, leaders of The Network—Mercer County’s teacher mentor/mentee and professional development group—shared 2024-25 results and their WVDE state-level presentation. This model pairs new teachers with mentors to support, retain, and inspire educators. Kudos to Laura Presley, Halie Henkes, Leigh Ann Owens & Amanda Reed!

BHS student Ethan Thompson, his mom, Mercer County principals, and our GEAR UP Coordinator attended the GEAR UP National Conference in San Francisco, July 13–16. This year’s theme, “Planting Seeds for the Future,” brought together students, parents, and educators for inspiring sessions and workshops on college readiness. Tonight, they shared their experience and insights with our board!

Mercer County Public Schools’ Superintendents enjoyed a great conversation today with Concord University President Dr. Bethany Meighen. We’re working together to create more dual credit and career pathway opportunities that help our students succeed after graduation!

What a fantastic time at the West Virginia Dolly Parton Imagination Library Day, hosted by our local WIC office! The Mercer County Schools Robotics League is offering a FREE summer camp, August 15-16th at Mercer Elementary from 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. This camp is open to any Mercer County Schools student in grades 3-8. Participants will get hands-on instruction in designing, building and coding robots. This is a great opportunity for students who have participated in robotics before as well as those who may be new to robotics. Complete the registration form to sign up.
