FBI Teen Academy for rising high school juniors and seniors (2024-2025 school year).


Families, please plan to attend the grand opening of the new Ridge Runner Fun Zone at Bluefield City Park on Monday, August 12th! Come join the fun, have a snow cone and enjoy the other activities!

Assistant Superintendent- Elementary Education- Dr. Adkins met with elementary principals today! Melissa Clemons , coordinator of safety and security, helped share important information! Everyone is ready and excited for this school year!





Assistant Superintendent- Secondary Education- Mrs. Mitchell met with all middle and high school principals and assistant principals along with Secondary Supervisor Angie Groseclose today. They are gearing up and excited for the upcoming school year!




Mr. Ted Gillespie stopped by today to visit with Superintendent Ed Toman. Those of us from Mercer County remember Mr. Gillespie as a one-of-a-kind teacher, principal, and Board of Education member. Mr. Toman and Mr. Gillespie have known each other since 1997, where they took the Principals' Academy together.


Football practice has begun all around the county! Thanks to the excess levy, our players are protected by Guardian Protector helmet protectors. Studies show that these protectors provide significant reduction in the impact force from tackles and reduces the risk of concussion.



Back to School Bash at Concord University!


Mountain Valley won the Boiler/Mechanical room award. Principal Teresa Guill received the Golden Wrench from Facilities Director Tom Adkins.


Parents/Guardians and Students who have already submitted an application and been approved for Virtual Education for the upcoming school year will be scheduled for orientations on August 19, 20, and 21. Dr. Vaughn and Ms. Farmer will be calling you the week of August 12-16 to schedule the time and date.
This meeting is for Parents/Guardians and Students who have not submitted an application, are homeschooled, or simply need more information about the program are welcome to attend!


A big thank you to the Mercer County Schools' paint crew for sprucing up the Transportation Department and bus garage!








Mercer County principals and central office administrators attended the SESC Principal's Academy at Tamarack today.

The Office of Special Education is planning a Summer Academy for Special Education Teachers on Wednesday, August 14, and Thursday, August 15, 2024. The trainings will take place at PSHS from 8:00-3:30 on both days and you will be paid for attending the trainings. We are excited to offer trainings in various areas including the Science of Reading; Accommodations/Interventions; Reading, Math, Writing and Behavior Strategies; Secondary Transition; using i-Ready; writing IEPs; AAC and Language; Trauma; Medicaid and Support Strategies for Paraprofessionals; WVEIS, Schoology, Excel and Canva; Educational Apps and Websites; PreK Small Groups and ELRS; PreK IEPs; Instructional Strategies for the 1% population; the Unique Learning System; and more.

Governor Jim Justice and First Lady CathyJustice provided the keynote speech for the 2024 Community In Schools Student Supports Institute. First Lady Justice spoke about the Friends with Paws program which is a part of the CIS initiative. Oakvale’s therapy dog, Oakley was recognized and got to meet Baby Dog.
