Young Paleontologists - Students in Miss Sydney and Mrs. Becky's class tried their hand at finding dinosaurs and dinosaur bones. Students got to chip away at their rocks to find what was in the middle. Needless to say, the kids had a great time being dinosaur hunters.





We will be celebrating our 100th day of school on Friday, February 3rd. We encourage everyone (students and teachers) to dress up like they are 100 years old. Please mark your calendars and let's have some fun.

Attendance Matters!


Mercer County Schools will be hosting a Ready Freddy event at Mountain Valley Elementary School on February 11th. Bluefield area schools are invited from 10 - 12 and Princeton area schools from 12 - 2. If you have a child who will be attending Pre-K or Kindergarten next year be sure to come out for some useful information and fun for the kids.

Students in Miss Saunders and Mrs. McFadden's class created art using ice. Students first froze colored water and then were able to create paintings using their icy brushes.





Friday, January 13th will be a Re-Imagined Day for all Mercer County schools. Students will remain home and join their teachers in Teams meetings on their devices using the schedule previously provided by their school. Staff report to school on a two hour delay.


Students in Ms. Mary Kate and Mrs. Emily's class got a chance to work making 3 dimensional art using foam Noodles. The kids were super proud of their artwork.





Students in Cathy Anderson's and Brooke Perry's class were treated to their pizza party for winning the holiday door decorating contest today. The students enjoyed their pizza tremendously. Thanks to everyone who voted on Facebook during December.

The results of our door decorating contest are in. With 467 votes, Cathy Anderson and Brooke Perry's door is the clear cut winner. This class will receive a pizza party after Winter Break. Congratulations and thanks to everyone for participating. Have a great holiday season.


Today the students of MCELC - Silver Springs were visited by Santa and his helpers from the West Virginia American Water Company. Through generous donations and the hard work of WVAWC employees, each child was able to receive a gift from Santa. We are very appreciative of the hard work it takes to make this event happen. Thank you WVAWC!





Our classrooms are starting to feel festive. Today we visited the Granada Theater, visited with Santa and saw A Muppet Christmas Carol. The kids had a wonderful time.


On December 12th, the students of MCELC will be attending a showing of The Muppet Christmas Carol at the Granada Theater in Bluefield, WV. Watch your child's folder for a permission slip and more information. Due to size constraints, parents will not be allowed to attend this field trip. Thanks for your understanding.

MCELC celebrated Halloween with our annual costume parade. Students were encouraged to dress up as a community helper or what they want to be when they grow up. Needless to say, the kids thoroughly enjoyed dressing up and seeing their friends' costumes.
