Policy I-28 Honor Graduates (former Senior Class Rank) Out for Comment:
A policy changing senior class rank to Top Scholars and Honor Graduates is currently up for comment until July 5th at https://core-docs.s3.amazonaws.com/documents/asset/uploaded_file/2558/MCS/2176058/I-28.pdf.
Most school districts in West Virginia and districts across the country are moving towards recognizing over-all academic achievement rather than ranking students. Instead of a valedictorian or salutatorian, high school students will be considered either Top Scholars or Honor Graduates. To be named a Top Scholar, a student must hold an overall GPA of 4.0 or higher in the current graduating class. To be named an Honor Graduate, a student must hold an overall GPA of 3.80 or higher. Student speakers at high school graduations will be chosen based on a metric of each school’s choosing. For example, it could be the class president or student body president.
