Our 4th grade students have spent the past few weeks learning about **Chinese New Year**, also known as the Lunar New Year. Today was our celebration day! 🎉
Students had the opportunity to experience parts of the culture they studied by watching a Chinese New Year parade and trying several different traditional foods. This is always a special day that our 4th graders look forward to every year.
Learning about Chinese New Year connects directly to **West Virginia 4th grade standards** in several ways. In **Social Studies**, students learn how culture and traditions influence the lives of people around the world. In **ELA**, they read informational texts and write about cultural traditions. Students also explore the **Chinese Zodiac cycle**, which connects to **math standards about patterns**, and they learn how the holiday is based on the **lunar calendar**, connecting to **science standards about the moon and patterns in space**.
Experiences like this help bring learning to life and allow students to explore cultures beyond their own while making meaningful connections to what they are learning in the classroom.
A **special thank you to our wonderful parents** who helped make this celebration possible by sending in food and supporting our students. Your support truly helps create memorable learning experiences for our class! ❤️
