Alternative Education
Welcome to the Mercer County Schools Virtual Alternative Learning Center, where we offer a supportive online education for students in grades 6-12. Our program uses Proximity Learning, an innovative online platform with built-in modules tailored to meet the needs of our students.
Program Overview
Grade Levels: 6-12
Platform: Proximity Learning
Teachers
- One teacher for each core subject (Math, English, Science, Social Studies)
- One special education teacher for IEP compliance
Program Hours
Monday - Friday: 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Class Duration: 57 minutes for each core subject and electives
Wednesday: No regular classes; designated for tutoring and parent/teacher conferences
Teacher Access
Our dedicated teachers have full access to Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 plans to ensure each student's unique needs are met.
Criteria for Returning to Traditional Schooling
Students enrolled in the Alternative Virtual Learning Center can be considered for return to traditional schooling if they meet the following criteria:
- Passing at least 5 of their 6 classes
- No major disciplinary issues
- Attendance of at least 3 in-person days per semester
- Good overall attendance
Our goal is to provide a robust and accommodating educational experience that prepares students for success in both virtual and traditional learning environments.
