This week, our students had a choice of trying three different types of plumcots. This is a hybrid fruit that is 50% plum and 50% apricot. They loved them! 💙

We'd like to share that over 2,500 schools across West Virginia, including higher education institutions, have received donated signs displaying our national motto: “IN GOD WE TRUST.”
This initiative follows Senate Bill 280, which requires that this sign be displayed in a conspicuous location within the main building of each public school or institution of higher education—somewhere easily accessible to the public.
We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to First Liberty Institute, Patriot Mobile, Patriot Academy, and Christian Management for generously donating the signs that will be displayed at Lashmeet Matoaka School.

LMS Families, we have a few important announcements to share: In honor of Patriot Day, we ask that students wear red, white, or blue tomorrow (Wednesday, September 11) to show their support and remembrance.
Robotics Team Forms Due
If your child is interested in joining the Robotics Team, please make sure their permission forms are returned no later than Friday, September 12.
First-Aid Office Supplies Needed
Mrs. Teresa is in need of a few supplies for the office: Band-Aids, antibiotic cream, and anti-itch cream. If you're able to donate any of these items, it would be greatly appreciated!
Family Photos for Classroom Displays
As a reminder, we are asking each family to send in a family photo to be displayed in their child’s classroom.
Our theme this year is "Our School is a Family", and we want to showcase all the wonderful families that make up our school community. Thank you for helping us build a warm, connected environment for our students!
Thank you for your continued support of our students and school community

In Ms. Prudich’s third grade classroom, students are actively engaged in problem-solving through the Building Thinking Classrooms framework. Instead of sitting at their desks, students worked in random groups at vertical whiteboards positioned around the room. This setup encourages movement, collaboration, and conversation.
Each group tackles math tasks that are designed to promote thinking, reasoning, and discussion . Students are encouraged to try, test, and revise their strategies, with Ms. Prudich acting as a facilitator—circulating the room, asking questions, and providing just-in-time support.
The classroom is buzzing with mathematical talk, peer teaching, and creativity. Mistakes are seen as opportunities, and students take ownership of their learning. By working through these tasks, they develop not only mathematical understanding, but also perseverance, communication skills, and confidence in their thinking.

ReachOut (“Let’s Talk”) is now available for every Mercer County Schools student (K–12).
When students are worried about schoolwork, friendships, family, or their own safety, they can ReachOut for help—day or night.
What is ReachOut?
ReachOut connects students to licensed counselors, a trusted student-support provider. Counselors listen, support, and—when needed—coordinate with your school administrator so students get the right help quickly.
Who can use it?
All MCS students (K–12).
How students access ReachOut
Click the “Let’s Talk” icon on any school computer.
Scan the QR code on ReachOut posters around school.
Tell a trusted school adult—we can help submit a ReachOut together.
What to expect
A counselor responds and helps the student problem-solve.
We respect privacy; if there’s a safety concern, appropriate adults will be involved to keep everyone safe.
Questions? Contact your school social worker.
