ADDITIONAL BUS INFO 4/7/23: Bus 626-students who live on Deer Run Road will need to meet the bus at Brush Creek Falls where White Oak Creek starts at 7:00 a.m. due to a tractor trailer blocking the road. This affects Athens, Sun Valley, Pikeview Middle and Pikeview High.
The Mercer County Sheriff's Office is conducting an on-site safety review of Athens Elementary School. There is no threat and no interruption of instruction.
As we kick off another Kids Heart Challenge, we would like to recognize our very own Athens School and Mr. Haye for being recognized as A Heart of Gold, Top School in West Virginia. Last year we raised over $10,000 towards Kids Heart Challenge and was 5th in the state for overall donations. We are proud of you all and thank you for giving so much to such a great cause so dear to Mr. Haye’s heart! Now it is time to pass The Torch on to Mr. Nester! Let’s try and beat that goal this year! 🏅
We have begun our One Book, One School family read aloud of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz! We will be posting the recordings every Friday. We encourage you to read with us every evening by following the guided calendar. We will be asking trivia questions every morning for you to win prizes! 📚

In the coming days, they are scheduled to start demolition on buildings in the alley leading from the school. During this time the alley may be closed off to traffic leaving the school parking lot. If the alley is blocked during morning drop-off, traffic will exit the parking lot between the church and CVS. During afternoon dismissal, you will leave the same route. Also, during this time the parking lot at the old BB&T building will be available for you to park at and walk over to the school as parking may be limited. If you choose to do this, please walk down to our crossing guard is so you can safely cross the road. Thank you!
All Mercer County Schools will operate on a 2 hour delay, tomorrow, Monday, January 23rd.
Attendance Matters!
Friday, January 13th will be a Re-Imagined Day for all Mercer County schools. Students will remain home and join their teachers in Teams meetings on their devices using the schedule previously provided by their school. Staff report to school on a two hour delay.
