Next week, we will celebrate Attendance Awareness Spirit Week. Attendance is extremely important for educational success. Absenteeism in the first month of school can predict poor attendance throughout the school year. Half the students who miss 2-4 days in September go on to miss nearly a month of school. Poor attendance can influence whether children read proficiently by the end of third grade or be held back.

This message is from Athens Elementary School. Parents, please make sure when writing notes concerning dismissal, to add the bus number and the specific place (address and/or daycare name) they are going. During afternoon pickup, vehicles should only be in one single line while waiting and no one should exit the vehicle while still in the line. If you park, please walk to the side door while we call for your child. Also, per county policy, students cannot be dismissed after 1:50 PM each day. Lastly, when coming to pick up your child for an early dismissal, please make sure to bring your ID with you to present when asked. Thank you for your attention to these matters.

Parents and guardians, to ensure your child gets home safely in the afternoon, we need the notes you write to have specific information on it. Please make sure to include the first and last name of the student, the date, the full exact address of the location they need to be dropped off at, and the full name of the person responsible for their afternoon care. Also, if someone different is picking them up after school, please include their full name on the note. Thank you for your attention to this matter!
