At Bluefield Middle School, we are committed to keeping learning focused, active, and hands-on. This year, we are taking an intentional step toward reducing screen time in our classrooms. Students will no longer be issued individual 1:1 laptops. Instead, laptop carts will be provided for specific instructional projects only when necessary. Research consistently highlights the benefits of this approach—showing that physical reading and writing on paper leads to stronger memory retention, deeper focus, and improved reading comprehension. Moving back to books, paper, and pencils keeps our focus centered on real classroom interaction and academic success. We look forward to seeing our students thrive as we bring the focus back to basic classroom connection!

✍️ Exciting news for the new school year! This year, all of our students are learning how to sign their names in cursive! Cursive is more than just a classic tradition—it’s a crucial life skill that helps kids build fine motor control, boost brain development, and prepare for adulthood, from signing official documents to opening bank accounts. To help reinforce this new skill, teachers will require students to sign the top of every assignment turned in using their cursive signature! 📝

Attention students and families of Bluefield Primary, Bluefield Intermediate, Bluefield Middle, and Bluefield High Schools:

Due to road construction, Bus 686 will have an alternate afternoon drop-off location until further notice. The bus will not be able to make stops at Golf Street, Ferndell, Coply, Walton, Kell, or Jefferson.

Parents should meet Bus 686 at Mitchell Stadium at the following approximate times:

Elementary students: 2:30–2:35 p.m.
Middle school students: 3:20 p.m.
High school students: 4:00 p.m.

This temporary change will remain in effect until the road construction is completed. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

"Good morning, Buccaneer families! This is Dr. Miear, your principal, reaching out with a few important updates for the upcoming school year.

First, all fall sports tryouts and practices begin this Monday. Here is the schedule:

Cheerleading: 12:00 PM in the gym

Volleyball: 6:00 PM in the gym

Football: 10:00 AM at the school

Soccer: 6:00 PM at the East River Soccer Complex

If you haven’t already submitted them, please make sure your student brings a copy of their physical form and insurance card to the first practice.

Additionally, any student not already registered in the Bluefield schools needs to be registered prior to the start of school. If know of any new families new to our community who are not yet registered, please encourage them to call the school’s main office as soon as possible to schedule a registration appointment before August 18th.

Finally, please mark your calendars for two key dates: Meet the Teacher Night will be Tuesday, August 18th, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM, and the first day of school is Thursday, August 20th.

We are very excited about the upcoming school year. Have a great rest of your summer,

Go Bucs!"
