The City of Bluefield is thrilled to announce the winners of the 1st Annual City-Wide Black History Month Contest. We commend these outstanding individuals for their remarkable contributions in highlighting significant aspects of African American history. Here are the winners:
Intermediate School Level:
1st Place: Alexis Hart from Bluefield Intermediate School, for her project highlighting Bluefield, WV Police DepartmentDetective Kevin L. Ross.
Middle School Level:
1st Place: Issac Harris from Bluefield Middle School, for his project titled "Ottley's and Dixie Orphan."
2nd Place: Jackson Jones from Bluefield Middle School, for his essay on local artist Issac Preston.
High School Level:
1st Place: Arianna Dowell from Bluefield High School, for her project and essay on Bluefield's African American history in barber and hair care.
2nd Place: Marrissa Carter from Bluefield High School, for her essay on Elizabeth Simpson Drewery.
