’Twas the Night Before the AA and AAA Championship Games
(Mercer County Edition)
’Twas the night before Championship, and all through the towns,
Bluefield and Princeton were buzzing—no hint of a frown.
The jerseys were hung by the heaters with care,
In hopes that a state title soon would be there.
The Beavers were nestled all snug in their beds,
While dreams of end zones danced in their heads.
Coach Simon reviewed plays one last time on his phone,
Whispering, “Tomorrow, that trophy is coming home.”
And over in Princeton, the Tigers lay tight,
Focused and fired up for tomorrow’s big fight.
Coach Tanner paced softly, his breath full of pride—
“We’ve worked for this moment. Stay locked in. Stay tied.”
When out on the fields there arose such a clatter,
The fans rushed to windows to see what was the matter.
The moon on the helmets, lined up in the snow,
Gave the luster of magic to the gridiron below.
For down in Charleston the matchups were set—
Bluefield vs. Frankfort, a Falcons-Beavers duet.
The Beavers stood ready, fast, fierce, and bold,
Determined to write a new chapter of gold.
And on the next field, in the stadium lights,
Tigers vs. Wildcats prepared for their fight.
Princeton roared proudly, united and strong,
Hoping the refs wouldn’t take too very long.
The fans bundled up with their cowbells and cheers,
Ready to yell loud enough to echo for years.
Businesses and neighbors, all shouting with pride,
“Let’s go Beavers and Tigers—we’re right by your side!”
And through every cheer, one truth rang out clear—
That win or lose, these teams are held dear.
For their communities know, as they give all they’ve got,
Pride isn’t measured by the scoreboard’s final spot.
It’s the heart, grit, and teamwork they show in the game
That make Bluefield and Princeton so proud of their name.
Then kickoff will come, and the crowds will erupt,
As Mercer County teams prove they’re built West Virginia tough.
For no matter the score, and no matter the fame,
We already know—they’ll play one incredible game.
So rest now, young athletes, stay focused, sleep tight,
For tomorrow you shine under championship lights.
And Mercer County whispers with joy through the night:
“Go Beavers! Go Tigers! Finish this fight!”
