April 1, 2023:
The state finals for the WV Bridge Design and Build Contest took place at WVU Tech on Saturday, April 1st. PVHS had 7 teams that made it to the finals. Madelyn Cole and Parker Shrewsbury won 3rd place in the high school division for the software competition and Johnathon Meadows won 1st place in the high school division for the balsa bridge competition. Other students who participated are: Lucas Demes, Leah Johnson, Jacob Lafferty, Landon Lester, Levi Maddox ,Landon Palmer and Ben Williams. Only 30 students made it to the state finals and PVHS had 7 teams---MCTEC had three teams qualify. Also pictured is Aiden Miller from Princeton Senior High School who participated. The important point is that 10 teams were from Mercer County Schools!!!!! We certainly dominated this competition.
Each student won cash prizes and received very nice certificates. PVHS will get a travelling trophy for the 1st place win in the Balsa bridge category to keep until the 2024 contest!
