April 9, 2024: Superintendent Edward Toman surprised two unsuspecting Mercer County students and one teacher with a wonderful opportunity. Princeton Middle School teacher Ms. Laiken Lucas, Princeton Middle School 7th grader Eva Coleman, and Princeton Senior High School 10th grader Blake Blankenship applied to become JASON Learning Argonauts in February 2024. They endured a competitive two-application process and were chosen out of dozens of applicants based on their academic achievements and interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Surrounded by their peers, their families, former Argonauts, and even former teachers, the newest Argonauts are ready for this adventure.
This summer, the three winners will embark on a five-day trip to Houston, a hub for technology, design and innovation. They'll get a firsthand look at how experts use Design Thinking and entrepreneurial skills to tackle real-world challenges and develop groundbreaking ideas. Their adventure will include visits to prestigious research institutions, major biotech companies and daring startups. The trip will also offer them a unique chance to showcase their own ideas and receive valuable feedback from experienced mentors.
When the intrepid Argonauts return, they will join previous student and teacher Argonauts in being STEM/JASON Learning Ambassadors, sharing their experiences with Mercer County students and teachers encouraging them to apply in the future.
