Sunday, March 13, seven Mercer School Robotics teams competed at the West Virginia VIQC State Championship, which was held at Fairmont State University. Forty elementary teams from all over WV competed for the top spot throughout the day. Six out of Mercer’s seven teams ranked in the top twenty teams and had the chance for the top spot of the day.

Team 59713D, coached by Mr. Matt Bailey won first place  in the Teamwork Alliance Challenge. Fifth graders, Ella Bailey, Dawson Peterson, Rebecca Hurt and Jacob Tinio battled all morning after technical challenges to come home with the win.

Team 59713E, coached by Mr. Scott Nystrom fought all day to claim the number one seeded spot They came in second for the Teamwork Alliance Challenge and won the Innovate Award from the judges. The Innovate Award is presented to a team with the most effective and efficient design process.  Both of these awards claimed them a spot at the World Competition in Dallas. Fifth graders, Riley Williams, Cage McMillion, James “JD” Hall, and Brayden Wilamowski clinched their spots for national competition.

We are still hoping to have one more team represent Mercer through an invitation to The World Competition.
