PRINCETON, WV – Mercer Elementary School is once again teaming up with Community Connections to host its annual Aluminum Can Drive, and the Pirates are ready to make a difference.
Beginning now and continuing through April 30, students, staff, and families are invited to collect aluminum cans to support this important community partnership. All donated cans should be crushed and bagged before being sent to the school.
The annual drive is more than just a recycling effort — it is an opportunity for students to practice environmental responsibility while supporting initiatives that strengthen the local community. Proceeds from the collected cans help Community Connections continue its work serving families and individuals throughout the region.
“This is one of our favorite partnerships because it allows our students to see how even small efforts can make a big impact,” said Principal Dr. Shellie Simpson. “When our Pirates come together, we can accomplish amazing things for our community.”
To add a little friendly competition, the classroom that collects the largest quantity of aluminum cans will win a surprise celebration. Organizers say the excitement is already building as classes begin tracking their collections.
Mercer Elementary encourages families and community members to start saving their cans and join Pirate Nation in turning recyclables into resources for a great cause.
