Industrial Sewing is a new program to MCTEC in 2026-27 school year. This program is designed for high school students in grades 9-12. It is an adaption of an industrial sewing curriculum developed by American workwear company Carhartt Inc. for use at MCTEC. The curriculum will also include training on design and product development software as well as workforce training for upholstery and alterations.

Funding for this new program was obtained via grants including a $76,000 grant by the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation. This a groundbreaking program, the first of it's kind available to high school students. It is being piloted at MCTEC for three years. If successful, the program may be offered at more career technical centers throughout West Virginia.
