Five students enrolled at Mercer County Technical Education Center (MCTEC) have earned their Associate Degrees at no cost during grades 11-12. The students have completed 60 free college credits online at New River Community and Technical College to acquire their two year college degrees. Administrators at MCTEC and New River CTC collaborated to make dual credits available to all high school students in Mercer County Schools. These students are the first in the State of West Virginia to accomplish this goal!
The names of the students are Cassy Bailey, Teylah Carson, Erika Colley, Adrianne Jarrell, and Dexter Simon. The students will graduate from high school on May 24, 2024. All of the students are interested in having careers as teachers. They have completed this milestone as a result of completing the Grow Your Own Dual Credit Pathway for Future Educators at MCTEC. Mr. Les Farmer is the instructor for the GYO pathway at MCTEC and has been instrumental in their success.
