In case you missed it, Bluewell School's second grade teacher, Miss Katie Hincher, received Cole Chevy/WVVA's Teacher of the Month. We are so proud of her!
Miss Hincher goes above and beyond to make her students feel safe, happy, and loved. Of course, this naturally leads to continued growth and academic achievement for her students.
Not only does Miss Hincher provide well-developed, research-based instructional lessons for her class, but she goes beyond that to meet their needs. She makes every occasion extra special just because of her loving heart.
Here are just a few examples. First, she periodically makes Jitter Juice for her students simply because they enjoy it. It makes a party, birthday, or a Friday extra special.
Also, she presents second grade material to students in a fun way, so they will remember the information more easily. She incorporates music, movement, rhymes, and more to difficult objectives, such as multiplication.
If a student invites Miss Hincher to an activity (such as a ballgame or a play), she makes a point to attend if she can. I know she has traveled several miles just to support her students. It brings a smile to the family's faces, and it builds an unbreakable bond.
In addition, Miss Hincher truly gets to know each of her students personally, and she cares about how they are doing each day. For example, the pandemic caused a vast list of issues in education. Regardless of the extra stress, Miss Hincher never missed a beat if one her students grew ill.
When/if Miss Hincher had sick students, she created some get-well baskets for them. The baskets were full of their favorite things such as food, candy, coloring books, puzzles...you name it!
Then, she hand-delivered the baskets to the doorsteps of her students with a Get Well card. In my opinion, this is one of the most touching acts I've seen a teacher do during the pandemic.
Miss Hincher, I am so proud of you! Continue to care about your kids and reach them in ways that go beyond their second grade year. You are loved and appreciated!
