Cinco de Mayo is tomorrow, Thursday, May 5, 2022. Here are some great ways to celebrate the holiday this year.
First, take a few minutes to learn about and share the real story. Cinco de Mayo celebrates the Mexican army’s victory over France at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862 during the Franco-Mexican War. In America, we commemorate Mexican culture and heritage on Cinco de Mayo.
Second, you can support local, Mexican businesses. We are not referring to Taco Bell, but a Mexican-owned business in our community.
Third, if you have the chance, you can also visit Mexican-centered museums. If you’re unsure of where to go, then do a quick internet search to find the closest location. Or, you can also partake in virtual tours or watch live streams of Mexican museums.
Finally, be sure to eat the food. Food is a large part of Mexican culture, so it’s a great way to celebrate! A fun twist is to make something homemade with your family to enjoy together. In fact, Mole Poblano is a spicy and delicious traditional Mexican dish that originates from Puebla, or you can make Enchiladas Poblanos (made with poblano chiles).
