Does your child experience test anxiety from time to time?  If so, these feelings are completely normal.  However, here are a few tips to avoid negative effects from test anxiety.

  • Make a study plan by mapping out a study schedule.
  • Know what information is on the test, so you won’t study the wrong material.
  • Be completely prepared for the test, so you feel confident on test day.
  • Quiz yourself before the assessment to see if you really know the material.
  • Be kind to yourself…if you get nervous, it’s okay!  Just focus on the things you can control, like studying.

  • Plan for the worst-case-scenario and say, “The worst thing that could happen is I fail my test, which would cause _____.”  Sometimes, you feel better if you put things in perspective.
  • Remember that stress (such as test anxiety) is normal and helpful, because it motivates you to do your best.  So, there is no need to be afraid.
