Have you ever wished for your child to get involved in some sort of activity after school?  Well, if they aren’t interested in sports or other clubs, here are some fun things they can do at home!

  • Get crafty!  Kids love to be creative, so grab a bin and fill it up with craft supplies.  Then, they can make their own creations.  You can fill the bin up construction paper, glue, scissors, markers, pompoms, pipe cleaners, beads, string, crayons, popsicle sticks, glitter, and paint.  You can also have a specific art table just for your kids.
  • Allow kids to read.  Reading is great for kids when they are bored or have some down time.  It also helps them relax after a long day.  You could take your child to the library for free, interchangeable books or allow them to rent e-books.  Make them their own cozy reading nook for an extra special location.

  • Learn a new hobby.  Kids are very smart and can pick up new skills easily.  A couple of examples is allowing them to learn a second language or an instrument.  There are a ton of free language programs available online nowadays, and this is a skill that will help them in their future workplaces.  Additionally, music leads to a better understanding of math concepts.  So, why not allow them to learn something new with added benefits?
  • Get active!  We all know that exercise provides several health benefits for children and adults.  The U.S. DHHR says that children should have one hour of moderate to vigorous physical activity per day.  So, take them outside and let them play!

  • Take a nap.  It’s okay to rest too!  After all, school is rigorous, children get up very early, and they need extended hours of sleep in order to grow appropriately.  So, if they are tired, let them take a nap.

There you have it…a list of at-home activities for after school hours.  Now, share these ideas with your kids and see if they would like to try something new!
