St. Patrick’s Day lands on March 17, which means that Bluewell School students celebrate tomorrow!  So, let’s learn some fun facts about this Irish holiday.

Did you know that St. Patrick did not wear green?  His color was “St. Patrick’s blue,” we wear green due to the Irish independence movement. 

Also, St. Patrick was not Irish, he was British.  He was born in Scotland or Wales in the late fourth century. 

Irish immigrants observed St. Patrick’s Day in Boston in 1737.  The first American St. Patrick’s Day parade was in New York City in 1766. 

In Chicago, they dye the river Kelly green on St. Patrick’s Day.  It lasts for about five hours.

Every year around St. Patrick’s Day, the Irish prime minister give the U.S. president a crystal bowl of live shamrocks.  This represents the close ties between the two countries.
