Finally...Bluewell School had a (somewhat) normal Valentine's Day dance, and everyone loved it!  Let's see how it benefited the students, and take a look at our plans for next year!

Today, Mr. Green used his PE resource time to throw a Valentine's Day dance for our students.  If you are somewhat new to Bluewell School, you must know that this was an annual tradition for years...that is, until the pandemic hit in 2020.  We'll get more into that in just a minute.

So, today's Valentine's Day dance is exactly what we all needed.  This is how the students benefited:

  • The dance incorporated physical activity, which is a daily need and it's Mr. Green's expertise!
  • It helped students' mental health...physical activity and laughing with others is always a good thing!
  • It addressed the students' social-emotional health.  As we all know, friends and social activities are an important component of a great childhood.

Also, no worries!  We still had safety procedures in place.  Students wore their masks (a few needed reminders), and we scheduled the dances in groups.  Therefore, only a couple of classes were in the gym at one time.  However, the students had a great time, and we all laughed throughout the morning.

So, we hope to continue our traditional Valentine's Day dance format next year.  In case you're not sure, our traditions include:

  • Penny votes for our crowned prince, princess, king, and queen.  This is literally done through a fundraiser, and the student who raises the most money earns the title.  Our prince and princess are in grades Pre-K-2; our king and queen are in grades 3-5.  Our winners obtain a stuffed animal, sash, tiara or crown, and a scepter or roses.
  • Incorporated line dances, typically taught during class.
  • Pictures taken by our PTO, also done as a fundraiser.
  • A refreshment table as a fundraiser.
  • An after school dance (families invited) to make the celebration even more special.

So, hopefully, we can go back to our traditions next year.  Of course, we will incorporate as much as possible.  Once again, a HUGE thank you goes out to Mr. Green and our teachers and staff for their hard work and dedication to our students.  It was a blast!
