This week, February 7-11, 2022, is National School Counseling Week. Truly, school counselors bring a special contribution to schools across the country.
School counselors help students achieve academic success and assist in them planning for a career. Bluewell School's school counselor, Mrs. Katie Pack, is one of the best you will ever find!
First, Mrs. Pack brings all of us (adults and students) together by ensuring that our mental and social-emotional needs are in check. Every morning, the students do a daily check-in with her. If someone is feeling sad, angry, or upset in any way, Mrs. Pack meets with that person individually to help make a plan for a successful day. She has such a big heart!
Mrs. Pack also helps school administration by monitoring and responding to student absences. We have a responsibility to teach our children, but how can we if they don't come to school? Mrs. Pack stays on top of truancy and makes a plan with families, if necessary.
Of course, Mrs. Pack helps our teachers too. Each day, she teaches Guidance lessons to the children, so they become stronger students. Her goal is for them to be strong in the classroom, which will lead to strength in the community and the workforce.
In addition, Mrs. Pack has strong relationships with community entities. She works with local agencies, so everyone stays on the same track to better assist our kids. In fact, did you know she is the chair of Mercer County's Mental Health Steering Committee? Mrs. Pack has helped lead our county in doing what's best for students' mental health, and she makes a huge impact!
School counselors are special, caring people who keep children in the center of their hearts. We are so thankful for everything Mrs. Pack does, and her dedication to our students, our school, our parents, and our community. Happy School Counseling Week, Mrs. Pack...we love you!
