FIVE COUNTY EDUCATORS EARN NATIONAL BOARD CERTIFICATION

PRINCETON, WV, JANUARY 13, 2011:   In 2010, Five Mercer County teachers earned certification through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, swelling the county’s ranks of NBPTS-certified currently-employed educators to nineteen.

Andrea Barr, Athens School, Michelle Keeney, Montcalm Elementary, and Becky Dunford, Ami Lester, and Tracy Samoski, all of Lashmeet/Matoaka School learned in November that they had passed all standards for certification in Early and Middle Childhood Literacy.

At the January 11 meeting of the Mercer County Board of Education, Board members congratulated the teachers and presented them with framed commendations.

National Board certification requires educators to complete a portfolio adhering to rigorous standards, submit a video of their instruction, and pass a difficult exam covering both pedagogical skills and content knowledge.
