VETERANS ADMINISTRATION - If either of your parents is a military veteran, you may be eligible for assistance. Contact the VA for information.

EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS - Check with local community groups, your parents' employers, or religious or service organizations which may be sponsoring scholarships. Many are based on abilities such as athletic skill or artistic talent and not just academic criteria. 

PARENTS' PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT - Various companies give aid to employees' children or dependents. 

ACADEMIC COMMON MARKET - This program is helping students in West Virginia cut the costs of undergraduate and graduate study at out-of-state institutions. This arrangement among 14 southern states allows participating students to pay in-state tuition while studying outside their home states. 

If your college major is not offered in a West Virginia school, such as Veterinary Medicine, for example, contact the West Virginia Committee on Higher Education for a list of majors and colleges in the Common Market. CO-OP EDUCATION PROGRAMS – Programs in the United States are listed in the Need a Lift book, Section IV, available in senior high school guidance offices. 
ADVANCED PLACEMENT TESTING - College credits earned by examination. Enrollment in AP Courses is recommended. Contact your guidance counselor. A testing fee is required. Tests are given for two weeks in May

CLEP TESTING - College credits earned by examination. Contact guidance counselor. A testing fee is required. CLEP Tests are administered at Concord College on specific dates.
