Athens Student Wins First Place in State Fire Safety Poster Contest

PRINCETON, WV, October 30, 2017:  For the second time, William Daniel Bryant, a fifth grade student from Athens Elementary School won first place in the state for his Fire Safety Poster.  In a surprise ceremony today at Athens School, West Virginia Fire Marshall Kenneth E. Tyree first informed Bryant and the student body that he was one of twelve (12) finalists in the state.  Shortly thereafter, Tyree made the announcement that Bryant was again the first place winner in the state.   Bryant’s poster was chosen from student participants in over thirty West Virginia counties. Bryant is the son of James and Jessica Bryant.

Shelley Weiss, principal of Athens School, told the students how proud everyone was of Will’s work and of his accomplishments. Paul Hodges, Mercer County Schools Board of Education President also attended the ceremony today.
