Bluefield Middle School

State Superintendent and State Board President Visit BMS . . .

State Superintendent, Dr. Steven Paine, along with Ms. Delores Cook, President of the West Virginia Board of Education, visited BMS on Friday, December 7, 2007! The visit was the result of BMS making AYP in all ten subgroups, being only one of two middle schools in the state who made AYP in both Reading/Language Arts and Math in all ten subgroups, and earning Accreditation with Distinction based upon information gathered by the Office of Educational Performance Audits. BMS was one of three schools in the county that exceeded state standards, ranking in the upper quartile.

During the visit Dr. Paine and Ms. Cook were looking for effective instructional strategies, focused team meetings, classroom technology, formative assessments, and other practices that can be replicated at schools throughout the state in an effort to increase student achievement statewide. Dr. Paine and Ms. Cook were very complimentary of the students and staff of BMS!
