MCTEC’s Keith Worrell is Honored as Mercer County’s 2016 Service Person of the Year

PRINCETON, WV, April 8, 2016: Mercer County Schools’ annual Service Personnel Banquet was held Tuesday night at the Chuck Mathena Center. Service Person of the Year honors went to Keith Worrell, Custodian at Mercer County Technical Education Center.

At the dinner, Mercer County Schools honored 33 county employees from every school and work site including the transportation department, warehouse, and maintenance. Each of the 33 was nominated by his or her supervisors based upon job performance, leadership skills, and ability to work well with others.

Worrell has worked at MCTEC for the past six years; however, he has worked for Mercer County Schools for over twenty-six (26) years. Worrell is described by his supervisors as someone who is always willing to jump in and help. Rosemary Mitchell, Director of MCTEC, says, “Keith treats the facility at MCTEC better than most people treat their own homes. He takes great pride in keeping MCTEC clean, safe, and comfortable for students and staff alike.”

Superintendent Deborah S. Akers and Mercer County Board of Education members presented 33 plaques to employees before announcing Worrell as this year’s winner.

At the event, Greg Prudich who served on the Mercer County Board of Education for the past 17 and ½ years was also awarded a plaque for his service to Mercer County Schools.

Prior to the dinner, the Princeton High Jazz Band, under the direction of Julia Kade, entertained guest as they arrived for the special evening.

Joe Turner, Assistant Superintendent and Master of Ceremonies, began the festivities with one of his unique, witty routines. Superintendent Deborah Akers introduced Board

members and welcomed over 300 guests. Danny Buckner, Retired Principal, gave the invocation.
