Thompson Receives Teacher of the Year Desk

November 9, 2015:   In a brief ceremony held at Sun Valley Elementary School, Brenda Thompson received her beautiful, hand-crafted Teacher of the Year desk.  “To be selected as Teacher of the Year is a great honor. It is overwhelming,” said Thompson as she began to shed tears of joy.

For Thompson who was selected as the 2015-2016 Teacher of the Year in May, this has been quite an exciting journey.  Not only was she selected as the Mercer County Teacher of the Year, she was also selected as the Four Seasons Teacher of the Year.  Thompson feels strongly that all “kids” can learn and that all “kids” need to be able to read.  Additionally, she feels she is very blessed because she teaches all the first grade students at Sun Valley Elementary, and she is able to watch them learn and grow throughout their tenure at Sun Valley.

Upon seeing the desk for the first time, she remarked, “It is amazing.  I never dreamed it would be so beautiful.”

The Mercer County Board of Education, Dr. Deborah Akers-Superintendent, and Ms. Ashley Smith are excited and proud to have Brenda Thompson represent Mercer County Schools as the Teacher Of The Year.
