Professional Development Opportunity for School Teams

(Re)Design Quality Units Aligned to the ELA Common Core Standards
Learn a backward design process for using standards to map comprehensive units of study that frame quality-driven lessons. Examine the key components of unit design through a featured template that includes: grouping standards;identifying knowledge (K), crafting essential understandings (U), creating appropriate unit and lesson guiding questions, and targeting skills (D). Additionally, see the connection between the unit map and lesson design as the presenter models hands-on instructional strategies that participants can use in classrooms immediately.

Who should attend?
- Teams of 2-4 teachers in Grades 3 through 6
- Principals welcome with teacher teams

What should educators prepare and bring?
- Come with a unit of study in mind that you plan to design or redesign
- Resources and materials (e.g., textbook, novel) for the targeted unit
- Copy of grade level ELA Next Gen Common Core Standards and pertinent content area standards
- Charged laptop and power cord

What are the logistics?
- Date: Saturday, November 8, 2014
- Time: 7:30 coffee/breakfast; 8:00 to 3:00 workshop, lunch; 11:00 to 12:00 on your own
- Stipend: $150
- 3-4 After School Webinar Style Follow Up Sessions in the coming months
