STUDENT GRIEVANCE POLICY
1.0 Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to provide students a means to find solutions to problems that may occur while attending Mercer County Technical Education Center.
2.0 Procedures
Step I: If a student experiences a problem involving a teacher, the student should state the problem and discuss it with the teacher within 5 school days of the incident.
Step II: If the problem is not resolved in Step I, it should be shared with the Student Affairs/ACE Coordinator.
Step III: If the problem is not resolved in Step II, it should be shared with the Principal/Director of Mercer County Technical Education Center within 10 days of the incident. The problem should be presented in writing to the Principal/Director using Form MCTEC-01. The Principal/Director will review the record and decide if scheduling an informal hearing is necessary.
Step IV: If the problem remains unresolved in Step III, it may be presented in writing using Form MCTEC-01 to the Title IX Coordinator of Mercer County Schools, 1403 Honaker Avenue, Princeton, WV 24740 by Certified Mail.
Step V: If the problem remains unresolved in Step IV, the problem may be presented in writing to the Council on Occupational Education, 7840 Roswell Road, Building 300, Suite 325, Atlanta, GA 30350. Phone: 1-800-917-2081 or 1-770396-3898. Web: council.org.

This Student Grievance Form provides guidance for students in following the grievance policy for academic and non‐academic grievances. Use this form to document your grievance. This form also serves as the written grievances regarding Steps Three and Four, though it is possible to resolve grievances without going through all Steps. Please print all information.
