New Mercer County Board of Education Member Takes Official Oath

Princeton, WV, November 22, 2016:  At the regular Mercer County Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, new member Mrs. Jacinda Santon Smith was sworn in by Mercer County Schools’ Superintendent, Dr. Deborah S. Akers

Smith was elected to the Board of Education in the November general election.  She is a graduate of Wake Forest University Babcock Graduate School of Management and School of Business.  She has lived in Mercer County her entire life, and she is a 1987 graduate of Princeton Senior High School. 

Smith feels “strongly that it is important to give back” to her community.  For over ten years she has been an active volunteer in the Mercer County School system at the county and school level. She has served on the Calendar Committee, Local School Improvement Council (LSIC), and as an officer of the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).  Furthermore, she has helped organize and judge Social Studies and Science Fairs.  In addition to her work with the school system, she serves on the Board of Governors of the Chuck Mathena Center, serves on the executive committee for the Jonathan Powell Hope Foundation, and serves as a chairperson of the Dr. Beryle Santon Scholarship Committee at Concord University. 

Smith is married to Dr. Todd Smith.  They have one daughter, Kate, and they reside in Princeton, West Virginia.
