2015 Elementary Choir Festival

Mercer County Schools Holds Elementary All County Chorus Event

PRINCETON, WV, November 24, 2015:     Mercer County Schools held its annual All County Choir festival tonight at the Chuck Mathena Center.  Students from seventeen different schools participated in the event.  The evening began with a warm welcome from Chairperson, Staci Paitsel.

The prominent guest director for the evening was Mr. Allen Kade, music teacher from Princeton Senor High School.  Kade is currently in his 32nd year of teaching.  He said his real education has “been in the classroom” because his “kids have taught him how to teach them.”  He also says he is “honored to be making music with the Mercer County Elementary 2015 Chorus.”

The guest accompanist was Mrs. Suzanne Lowry, former Princeton Junior High and Princeton Senior High music teacher.  Lowry is the current accompanist for the Southwest Virginia Community College Choir.  Additionally, she also often accompanies the concert series held at First Christian Church in Bluefield.

Elementary Assistant Superintendent of Schools for Mercer County Schools, Rick Ball, says, “We are proud of our elementary Fine Arts program.  These children who performed tonight truly demonstrated their love for music.”

The Mercer County Board of Education, Dr. Deborah Akers – Superintendent, and Mr. Rick Ball would all like to thank teachers and students who participated in the festival.
